State cross country qualifiers Kaley Hauxwell, Will Kuenne and Madison Brown are all smiles.

Seniors Kaley Hauxwell and Will Kuenne, along with sophomore Madison Brown, will head to Kearney Friday, Oct. 20, to compete at state cross country.

At the district meet, Madison kicked it in the second mile to move up from 13th place to fifth place with a time of 20:47. This year is Madison’s first year in cross country and her first trip to state.

Looking forward to competing at state, Madison said, “I feel nervous and excited. I’m not excited about having another week of practice.”

When she runs, Madison said all that’s going to go through her head is The faster you run the faster you’re done.

Kaley finished in 13th place at districts with a time of 21:14. This year’s state meet will be the end of her high school career.

“I feel confident but sad because it’s my last race,” Kaley said. “I’m going to leave it all out on the course because it’s my last time. I’m going to try to get in the low 20s in placing.”

Will finished in sixth place at districts with a time of 17:50. He said he is going to try to get 17:30 at state.

“I’m going to eat, grab my stuff, and sleep on the bus,” Kuenne said. “I’m very excited and very happy; it’s my fourth time running state.”
