Three sets, plus three games, equals the Chase County Longhorns’ repeat as first place in SPVA. Sutherland was their first game, and they won in three sets. After the win, their next team was the No. 1 seed: Bridgeport.

“I was nervous at first,” sophomore setter Maddie Schuller said, “but once we started playing I was confident we could do it.”

There was a scare from junior Allison Owings, who sprained her ankle in the Bridgeport game, but with the win, the team agreed it’s “With each other! For each other!”

“I was not going to let St. Pats beat us a third time and have them win SPVA,” Allison said. “I had to change from middle position to backside so I could hit off my good ankle.”

After the winning game, the excitement threw the volleyball team into a giant hug for celebration.

“The Underdogs win the SPVA tournament,” senior Ragan Nickless said. “I’m so proud of our team.”

“We could all cut back on mistakes,” Coach Schuller said, “but there is only one way to go: up.”
