New decor greets students each day.

New look, new food, new people.

This year Chase County Schools partnered with South Dakota-based Lunchtime Solutions Inc. to completely overhaul the lunch program.

The head director is Amy Prior of Imperial. She said she got a call from an old college friend, Susan Gracey, who worked with Lunchtime Solutions. Gracey asked if Prior knew anybody in the area who would like to apply for the director’s job.

“I had looked at trying to help with the lunchroom at the school last spring,” Prior said, “but there were too many hoops to jump through. Susan started to explain the program and I got more interested in taking the job.”

Lunchtime Solutions offers a variety of menus and recipes.

“With Lunchtime Solutions, there are two different menus for high schoolers. We have the regular menu and then Cruisin’ Cafe, which is geared more like fast food,” Prior said.

Considering that the kitchen staff has been feeding 500-plus students a day in an hour-and-a-half timeframe, the kitchen is booming.

“The lunch program is crazy, but it’s amazing to see the kids eating the food and trying what’s prepared,” Prior said.
